Journal Writing Activities

Feel free to copy and paste your journal assignments for this week here. I will print them out and bring them to class with my critique on them.

I hope you enjoy reading each other's works. It's fun to see other people's writing styles.

  3. I have been trained to look over our island as a night guard. Lately there has been a cruel creature that will come and attack in the middle of the night, so often now that people are afraid to leave their houses. This makes having the night shift unfortunate, because people blame you when he comes onto the island and attacks. One night I was sitting at my post, watching the water for incoming ships, when I saw something approaching in the water. I looked closer, hoping it was not the Grendel. When I realized it was a ship, I got on my horse to take a closer look. As I reached the shore I saw it was a water vessel with men on the deck in chain mail with swords and shields. At first I feared an attack and asked who they were and why they were there. The leader then told me they were here to see Lord Hrothgar because his father was a noble war lord called Ecgtheow. They then asked how to get to the place of the lord and said they were there because they heard of a great creature that was harming the country in the night and were there to help. I believed what they told me so I brought them to the lord and left guards to watch over their boat. We walked up to the hall, a great building like no other, armor clanging and shining in the moonlight, there to help.
